RETO HALME – WHO IS
Reto Halme: The Kinetic Image & The Berlin Dub
The Present: A Synthesis Of Sound And Motion
Based in Berlin, Reto Halme is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of experimental videography, analog sound design, and movement. His current practice is defined by a “cinematic lens” that has expanded beyond the static frame into immersive, rhythmic multimedia.
In his latest work—most notably the film study Artemida Unrest (2025)—Halme functions as both director and composer. He utilizes deep, resonant frequencies and dub-inflected textures to drive a visual narrative focused on the human body’s kinetic energy. As noted by Metalocus, his work is “anything but indifference… a boiling reality” that captures the raw, nocturnal atmosphere of the contemporary Berlin underground.
Artistic Philosophy: The Architecture Of The Night
Whether producing a dub techno landscape or a film-style still, Halme’s vision remains rooted in “nocturnal urbanism.” He views fashion and movement not as trend documentation, but as authentic moments of lived time. His work is characterized by:
Kinetic Intensity: A focus on the psychological portraiture of the human body in motion.
Atmospheric Texture: The use of light and shadow to reveal layers of emotion—like a single frame pulled from a night-soaked film.
Multimedia Immersivity: Merging large-format visuals with live audiovisual performances (VJ/Live sets) and immersive installations.
The Foundation: A Decade Of Fashion And Urban Exploration
Berlin (2013–Present): The current chapter. A transition from the lens to the studio, where experimental video and rhythmic sound have become the primary medium.
Los Angeles & The Road (Early 2000s): A cinematic period influenced by the vastness of the desert and beach, moving toward a “wanderlust-inflected” style following the impact of 9/11.
New York City (Late 90s): Seven years based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This era focused on nighttime urban life, subways, and the spontaneous energy of the city that never sleeps.
Madrid & London (Early 90s): The beginning of his practice, rooted in the modernist awakening of Madrid and a focus on architectural context and the human form.
Current Focus
Today, Reto Halme continues to push the boundaries of the “visual-music” set. From his Berlin spot, he produces original audio for Bandcamp while developing video works that emphasize atmosphere and motion—often exploring the “flow” of human energy even without the presence of a traditional camera.
